OK... I figure if you're lucky enough to FIND a ST70 on the street (!),
you should make up for your incredible good fortune by getting on eBay
and buying half decent tester. If you're going to be "into" tubes,
you'll need one in the end anyrate. Nothin' too hi-end required, just
one to find the bad tubes and give you a rough idea how "tired" they are.


I am going to have to politely disagree with your "Nothin' too hi-end
required" statement. At any given time there are around 220 tube testers
for sale on ebay, and 200 or so are basically just toys (emissions
testers) - A Hickok 533 or TV-7A/U is about the lowest cost of the real tube
testers, if he is not ready to spend at least $200 for a mutual conductance
tester (and another $100+ for a proper calibration) then he is just ****ing
in the wind with anything less. He might as well stick with an $8 ohm meter
from Home Depot.
