The closeness of the sub to the floor actually increases bass output.
However, since the sub is in a cabinet, where it was not designed to be, the
frequency response is different from what the manufacturer envisioned.
However, since most small subs have nonflat response, this could be better
or worse.
If you feel the sound is "boomy", you might try raising.
For maximum output, the current position is likely the better of the two.
Even better would be to get it out of the cabinet.
You could shove it in a closet. Even covered by clothes, that would be a
better place for it.
The vibrations created by a sub are potentially damaging to hifi and a/v
equipment.
