VCRs are not just for playing back precorded tapes.

Umm, you mean the same route as LP players?

Do you even have to ask?

;-)

The nearest Blockbuster (probably the largest and busiest in my state) is
overwhelmingly DVD-oriented for new releases.

BTW, VCRs will have a longer life as time-shifting devices than as players
of prerecorded movies.

The relevant word here is "obscure".

Just like has been happening with vinyl, obscure recordings that aren't
re-released commercially, will be recorded to DVD by amateurs.

VCR as a playback-only medium is already dead no? :P But it will
continue to be useful in places with no Tivo(non-US) as a recording
medium.

Yes since DVD players have been very inexpensive and DVD recorders
with all of the features of VCR are coming down in price.

True, but with a DVD recorder one can make their own.

Yes, it came out recently. You'd be surprised at the number of more
obscure films now available on DVD. www.dvdpricesearch.com is an
excellent resource for determining if something is on DVD and the
least expensive place to buy it on-line.

Get the gear to transfer your vids to a dvd recorder, then you can do your
own on your home computer.
