I am looking for one in a good to very good shape. Must be the fourth
edition (thick book bound in red cover). Buy or trade for the
Vademecum of Vacuum Tubes.

Have you tried www.abebooks.com? Several copies there, starting at $40.

Absolutely true and you can find it here:

You can download the whole thing which is just under 80mb as a zip file.

On dial-up that should take a few years.... :-(
(I know someone on DSL, though that may not be that
much faster)

Depends on how bad one wants it :) In my "spare" time I got all 42
individual files at 28.8 & 31.2. Took from 10AM to 9PM with a few
breaks (about 3 hours worth) - I would not want to try the 80MB zip file
because 1 disconnect & its start-over time.

Hi,
It may be a bit hard to find an original like mine, but there are
reprints of them available. I think Antique Audio has them. You could
try at www.tubesandmore.com or try your luck on ebay if you can not find
one on this news group. Another little talked of book of the same era
but an excellent one is Electronic and Radio Engineering fourth edition
from McGraw Hill. This one was published in 1955 and covers a lot of
useful information for any tube enthusiast. This covers more then just
audio, but the audio sections are quite good. I use both books for
reference a lot when designing and building amplifiers. Both are very
technical, but even a person with just basic skills and knowledge in
electronics can find these books reasonably easy to understand.

I just download the large zip file over dial-up. There were several
disconnects, but, using Opera as my browser I just clicked on "resume
transfer" and it picked up where it left off.

Took me about 6 minutes to download. Would have taken
much less than 3 if the website had run faster than 1.6 Mbits/S.

I get an error:
You don't have permission to access /files/PREFACE.PDF on this server.

Has the download quota for the month been exceeded?
Or the book equivalent of the RIAA killed it? :-(

Still on dial up, and I was going to download chapter by
chapter.
