A constant current source (CCS) can be used to bias a tube in place of the cathode resistor. In this case, does the maximum grid resistor rating follow the spec for cathode or fixed bias? Does the 'rule' apply the same to a single triode as to a differential amp?

Follow the specs for cathode bias.
