Hi, can anyone help?
I've been using a sherwood 4050 amp with wharfedale modus four
speakers and recently it has been cutting out at a certain volume
(probably about 2 or 3 on the amp, which isn't very loud). This has
never happened before in six years of using the amp and speakers
together. I'm guessing this is some sort of power surge protection
thing but can't understand why it has suddenly started happening when
nothing has changed in my set-up.
Thanks

When you say, "about 2 or 3" does that mean 2 or 3 O'Clock position, or less
than say 1/4 volume?

Disconnect the speaker wires completely from the receiver and see if it
still cuts off when volume raised. It probably will not, at which time
carefully check your wires for any damage - fraying, punctures from staples
etc. Do not allow even a single strand to lay over and touch the other
conductor or any metal on the receiver chassis. If in doubt, replace the
wires. There is a small chance of a defect in a speaker.
